We’re kicking off 2023 with a special edition of TWILA from San Juan, Puerto Rico! That’s where the American Farm Bureau Federation held its 104th Annual Convention earlier this month. We have all our coverage from the convention, plus some great stories from around the island! Avery takes us and a group of Louisiana rice farmers to Lajas to see their check-off dollars at work. Karl traveled way up to Adjuntas to get his coffee fix and learn more about this unique commodity. And Neil took one for the team and took on taste-testing Bacardi Rum. For the past couple months, farmers and ranchers across Louisiana have fought weather. As crops ripened and farmers prepared for harvest, the clouds opened up and have flooded and devastated crops. This week, the team covers damaged soybeans, delayed rice harvest, hurried sugarcane planting, and Louisiana Farm Bureau’s response to all of this bad news for Louisiana farmers and ranchers. Also in this week’s show, we hear from Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forest, Dr. Mike Strain, about what he’s seen in all this damage across the state and the path forward to making farmers whole again. Finally, an update on why the TWILA team has been quiet lately — there have been a lot of really great changes in the past couple months.

LSU AgCenter’s Craig Gautreaux tells us why farmers are irrigating their farms more this year, and how that will help make a successful crop. TWILA’s Karl Wiggers takes us to Tensas Parish, to show us why some dry-land cotton is ready for a shower. TWILA’s Avery Davidson walks us through some steps to be prepared for this year’s hurricane season. This week, we're bringing you a special edition of TWILA from the New Orleans Marriott, site of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation's 100th Annual Convention. Last week, the organization honored 100 years of service to Louisiana agriculture during the Centennial Celebration and Convention. After a two year hiatus from COVID-19 restrictions, the state's largest general farm organization was ready to celebrate!
